    General description

Sodium iodide is a water soluble[1] iodide salt.

    Application

Sodium iodide was used as a component in the preparation of Mayer′s hematoxylin stain solution.[2]
It may be used in the following processes:
    • Precursor in the polymerization of butyl acrylate.[3]
    • Chaotropic agent in the extraction of DNA.[4]
    • Deprotecting agent in the removal of N-tert-butyloxycarbonyl group in amino acids.[5]
    • Water-soluble fluorescence quenching reagent.[1]
