    Description

    General description

    Ethylene glycol (EG) is a polyol having a wide range of industrial applications. Its preparation from cellulose has been reported.[1] It can also be produced from fossil fuels (petroleum, natural gas and coal) and biomass-derived resources.[6]

    Application

    Ethylene glycol has been used as a carrier fluid during the fabrication of shear thickening fluid (composed of nanosized silica particles).[4] It has also been used to compose previtrification and vitrification solutions for the cryopreservation of mouse embryos.[5]
