    General description

Aluminum chloride and Aluminum hydroxide are used for the staining of Mucicarmine.

    Application

Aluminium chloride (AlCl3) can be used as a Lewis acid catalyst:
    • In Friedel−Crafts reactions.
    • In the carboxymethylation of alcohols in the presence of dimethyl carbonate.
    • To synthesize a porous organic polymer with hydroxyquinoline via polymerization reaction between perylene, 8-hydroxyquinoline, and chloroform.

It is also used in combination with NaI or KI in acetonitrile for varieties organic transformations such as Claisen rearrangement of aromatic alcohols, selective dealkylation aliphatic methyl ether, and chemoselective C−O bond cleavage of esters, acetals, ethers, and oxathiolanes.
