General description
Aluminum chloride and Aluminum hydroxide are used for the staining of Mucicarmine.
Application
Aluminium chloride (AlCl3) can be used as a Lewis acid catalyst:
It is also used in combination with NaI or KI in acetonitrile for varieties organic transformations such as Claisen rearrangement of aromatic alcohols, selective dealkylation aliphatic methyl ether, and chemoselective C−O bond cleavage of esters, acetals, ethers, and oxathiolanes.
- In Friedel−Crafts reactions.
- In the carboxymethylation of alcohols in the presence of dimethyl carbonate.
- To synthesize a porous organic polymer with hydroxyquinoline via polymerization reaction between perylene, 8-hydroxyquinoline, and chloroform.
