General description
Trypan blue is a dye used to distinguish between live and dead cells. It is a vital stain that is not absorbed by healthy viable cells, but stains cells with a damaged cell membrane.[2] This way, only dead cells can be counted. The method is sometimes referred to as the dye exclusion method.
Application
Use to detect dead and dying cells in cytotoxicity assays and for routine assessment of cell viability[3][1][4] and proliferative assays.
Preparation Note
Prepared in 0.81% sodium chloride and 0.06% potassium phosphate, dibasic.
