General description
In aqueous solutions, phosphoric acid behaves as a triprotic acid. The triprotic acid has three ionizable hydrogen atoms, which are lost sequentially.
We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which adhere to one or more of The 12 Principles of Greener Chemistry. This product has been enhanced for energy efficiency. Find details here.
Application
Industrially, phosphoric acid may be used in fertilizers, detergents, pharmaceuticals, water softeners.
Phosphoric acid (85 wt. % in H2O) can be used for a variety of applications, such as:
• a medium for corrosion inhibition on mild steel[2]
• an activating agent in the preparation of activated carbon[3]
• enhancement of electrochemical performance for energy devices[4]
• in the development of polymeric membranes for proton exchange membrane based fuel cells[5][6][7]
Phosphoric acid has been used as an acid solution for pH adjustment of the fermentation broth in a protocol for the acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation of sugars in a bioreactor.[1]
