    General description

Methanol is a primary alcohol, which is commercially manufactured from methane.[1] It can also be obtained via pyrolysis of wood.[1] It can find applications in organic synthesis reactions, as a highly polar solvent.[1]

    Application

Methanol may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte content in biodiesel,[2] wine, and biological fluids[3] by gas chromatography (GC) technique. It can also be used as a solvent/eluent for the preparation of various standard solutions and the extraction of analytes for their subsequent determination using analytical techniques.[4][5][6]
