General description

Pure ethyl alcohol is a non-denatured 200 proof ethanol. Ethanol, a primary alcohol, is an important raw material for the synthesis of various compounds. It can be synthesized either from molasses by fermentation or by hydration of ethylene. It acts as a hydrogen source and reaction medium during the transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds in the presence of sodium hydroxide.[1] The impact of ethanol/water fumigation on the performance of diesel engines has been studied.[2] Spectrophotometric grade solvent is of high purity with low UV absorption.

Application

Pure ethyl alcohol (Ethanol) has been used to prepare:
• Ethanol solution for the synthesis of Ga-68 DOTATATE [DOTA-(Tyr3)-octreotate (where DOTA = 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclo- dodecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid)] by an automated synthesis system.
• Aristolochic acid stock solution for the spectrophotometric analysis.[3]
• Core silica particles of nanoshells by a modified Stöber method.[4]
• Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) solution in combination with water for synthesizing PVP ultrafine fibers by solution (air-) blowing method.[5]
