    General description

Divinylbenzene (DVB) consists of a combination of meta and para isomers of DVB and ethylvinylbenzene. It can be used as a monomer for the preparation of linear polydivinylbenzene by anionic polymerization.[5][6]

Divinylbenzene (DVB) is a bis unsaturated monomer. DVB along with styrene as a co monomer is used in producing cross linked polymers. Several examples have reported. Polymerization with high concentrations of DVB produces popcorn polymers.

    Application

DVB can be co-polymerized with sulfur due to its high reactivity. It can be used as a cathode material in lithium-sulfur batteries.[7] It can also be used as a cross-linker that increases the rigidity and reduces the template leakage of the molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs).[8] DVB can be polymerized to form poly(divinylbenzene) that can be carbonized to fabricate activated carbon monoliths.[9]

DVB is used in polymeric core shell nanoparticles[1] and as a crosslinking agent.[2] DVB may be used as a monomer for the synthesis of highly crosslinked macroporous styrene/DVB polymers.[3] It may also be used to synthesize monodispersed poly-DVB microspheres.[4]
