    DESCRIPTION

    General description

Antibiotic Antimycotic Solution is formulated to contain 10,000 units penicillin, 10 mg streptomycin and 25μg Amphotericin B per mL, and is solubilized in a proprietary citrate buffer. It is recommended for use in cell culture applications at 10mL/L. Antibioticantimycotic solution is generally used to prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms including bacteria and fungi in cell culture media.[1]

    Application

Antibiotic antimycotic solution has been used:
    • as a supplement in different types of cell culture media.[2][3][4]
    • as a component of phosphate buffer saline (PBS) sterile solution to prevent contamination of periodontal ligament fibroblasts (PDLF) tissues that are isolated and cultured in the experiments.[5]
    • as a component of storage solution for preserving tracheal segments harvested for subsequent experimental investigation.[6]

    Biochem/physiol Actions

Mode of Action: Penicillin acts by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis. Streptomycin inhibits prokaryote protein synthesis by preventing the transition from initiation complex to chain-elongating ribosome and causes miscoding. Amphotericin B interferes with fungal membrane permeability by forming channels in the membranes and causing small molecules to leak out.

Antimicrobial spectrum: Includes Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria, fungi and yeasts.
